Magazine Research

TIME is an American weekly news magazine published in New York City. They initially possessed a distinctive writing style, making regular use of inverted sentencesTheir style tends to lend on the comedic side, often using parody and imagery that are familiar and easily recognise by the audience however despite the style, they still address their issues seriously. Most of their work is also accompanied with opinion pieces with photographs of the writers.

National Geographic is a resource for photography, research, updates, news, global issues, geography and maps. They tend to lend on more of the serious side by providing realistic images and photography. They also address their readers more seriously.

LIFE was an American magazine that ran from 1883 to 1972, published initially as a humor and general interest magazine.  However LIFE also took sides in politics and international affairs, and published fiery pro-American editorials. In terms with their imagery, their magazine took a more old and nostalgic approach and they often use photography.

New Scientist tends to go for a more graphic and comedic approach when it comes to their magazine, although they still address serious issues. The magazine usually focuses on science community. Their illustrations are quite abstract compare to the other magazine and has more of a modern approach.

As for my decision, I am thinking of picking New Scientist for my magazine choice as they have a similar style that I want to work with. I would like to work with a more graphic style and use simple images to portray my story.
